Meloni is on course to form a new government in Italy, exit polls from Sunday’s parliamentary elections in the EU member state suggest.

The coalition made up of Meloni’s party – Brothers of Italy, Matteo Salvini’s League party and Silvio Berlusconi’s Forward Italy can count on 227 to 257 seats or an absolute majority in parliament given that it won between 41 and 45 percent of the vote.

The results of the elections in Italy could significantly affect the relations within the European Union, but also towards Russia due to the close ties of the leaders of the parties from the right-wing bloc with Vladimir Putin.
