A player is currently considered to be offside if any part of his body capable of scoring is in front of the last defender when the ball is passed to him. But under the proposal, the whole body of the attacker would need to be offside for play to be stopped
The World Football Federation (FIFA) is reportedly close to introducing a major new change to the offside rule, British media reports. The move, spearheaded by Arsene Wenger, FIFA’s head of global football development, will see the striker’s entire body in front of the opposition’s last defender to be offside.
According to information, the World Football Federation will start testing the change during some youth matches in the Netherlands, Italy and Sweden.
A player is currently considered to be offside if any part of his body capable of scoring is in front of the last defender when the ball is passed to him. But Wenger’s proposal would change that, requiring the forward’s entire body to be offside, thus giving the forwards an advantage.
