Saudi Arabia has been chosen to host the Club World Cup in 2023, the International Football Federation (FIFA) has announced. The decision of the FIFA Council was made just a few days after the end of this year’s tournament held in Morocco, where in the final, the European champion, Spanish Real Madrid defeated the Asian representative Al Hilal from Saudi Arabia with 5-3.
The FIFA Council also confirmed the changes in the structure of the World Club Championship, with approval for the expansion of the tournament to a total of 32 teams, but from 2025. Thus, Europe will get 12 seats, South America six, while Africa, Asia, North and Central America and the Caribbean will each have four club representatives. One seat is reserved for Oceania and the other for the host tournament organizer.
