Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter began with much fanfare as the billionaire aims to make the social media platform free for all users.

“The bird has been released,” he tweeted after completing the $44 billion purchase on Thursday. Musk has repeatedly emphasized that his goal is to strengthen free speech and work to “unlock the extraordinary potential” of Twitter.
