Spain – Heat wave

“The climate crisis is a reality and climate change is killing,” Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said during a visit to Aragon, a province in the country’s northeast where fires have ravaged tens of thousands of hectares.

The extremely high temperatures of the past 10 days, Sanchez said, have caused the deaths of more than 500 people. The Prime Minister referred to the Institute of Public Health’s estimates of the increase in mortality.

According to the Spanish Meteorological Institute, this heat wave could be the most intense wave ever recorded and one of the three longest heat waves.
