18-year-old Indian chess player Domarayu Gukesh became the youngest world chess champion in history after defeating Ding Liren of China 7.5-6.5 at the World Championship in Singapore.

Indian chess player Domarayu Gukesh made chess history after winning his 14th game at the World Championship. After his triumph over Ding Liren, he became the youngest player to win a chess world championship.

How impressive Gukesh’s success is is demonstrated by the fact that the previous youngest world champion was Kasparov, who won the World Championship at the age of 22; the Indian did it four years earlier.

This year, Gukesh also won a gold medal at the Chess Olympiad, where he triumphed with the Indian team.
