Croatia becomes the 27th member of the Schengen zone, and in less than a month border controls will be abolished at land and sea border crossings, and in the spring at airports. This was unanimously decided by the ministers of interior affairs of the EU member states at today’s meeting in Brussels.
The most obvious benefit of entering the Schengen zone will be the abolition of borders between Croatia, Slovenia and Hungary. Of course, politically they remain in force, but physically they disappear completely. This means that there will be no border controls and vehicle stops when crossing the border from Croatia to Slovenia and Hungary, and not the other way around.
